Hospice of Randolph plans volunteer information session

(Asheboro, NC) – Hospice of Randolph is offering a volunteer information session on Tuesday, February 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. for community members who are interested in learning more about hospice care and becoming a patient/family volunteer.

Led by CEO Trent Cockerham, the session gives prospective volunteers a better understanding of the hospice model of care and the organizational culture of Hospice of Randolph and Hospice of the Piedmont. Upon completion, attendees are given the opportunity to register for volunteer training, which will be held Monday, February 10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesday, February 12 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The required patient/family volunteer training prepares new volunteers to become part of the hospice care team and work one-on-one with individuals receiving hospice care in their homes.  Volunteers can provide practical support, such as running errands and assisting with household tasks.  Most often, they devote their visits to emotional care and companionship, as well as providing respite for caregivers.

Volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of one hour a week with their assigned patient. In order to volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old, pass a criminal background check and an initial TB test, attend an information session, and commit to the program for at least one year.  Registration and a pre-training interview are required.

The information session and training sessions meet in the Education Building at Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive in Asheboro.

Anyone interested in more information or registering should contact volunteer coordinator Dawn Stone at 336.672.9300 or visit the “Become a Volunteer” section of www.hospiceofrandolph.org to download an application.

Hospice of Randolph is an affiliate of Hospice of the Piedmont, a not-for-profit organization providing medical, emotional, and spiritual support for those with life-limiting illness and their families since 1981.  The combined organization serves eight counties – Guilford, Randolph, Davidson, Forsyth, Montgomery, Moore, Chatham and Alamance.  For more information about Hospice of Randolph, visit www.hospiceofrandolph.org.
